Ms. Emma Lou Glanton (also called “Sarah”) was born to the parents of the late Wadie Glanton and Rebecca Rosser Glanton on June 13, 1938 in Hogansville, GA. She was raised in a home surrounded by affection with four siblings Forrest, Pearl, Emily, and Willie Edward, who provided her a lifetime of happiness.

Emma received her childhood education at the West End School and religious training at Springfield Baptist Church where she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, both in Hogansville. As a young woman, she had three beautiful children, Maybelle, Jerry, and Tony Glanton that she adored. Her children would be the joy of her life -- until the grandchildren and great grandchildren came along. She knew exactly how to shower each child, and grandchild, with unique attention and love that made them each feel special.

Emma worked locally in the manufacturing industries at Rainbow Plastics, Inc. in Grantville, GA and Milliken’s Duncan Stewart plant in Lagrange, GA for many years and later retired in 2000. When she was not working and loving her grandchildren, she found pleasure in watching wrestling, old cowboy westerners, soap operas, and game shows on televisions to past time. She will always be remembered for her laughter, smile, and unconditional love shown to others, and responses during her surprise birthday parties. Moreover, she loved to cook and spending time with family and friends and shared with others in need.

In the 1980s, she co-founded The Purple Rain Social Club, where she along with other women organized social events, traveled, and attended conventions. Through these efforts lifelong relationships were reinforced and new ones across generations were developed. Most notably, her friendship with her club sisters, Mrs. Lillian Rhodes Cotton and the late Ms. Vera Lakes and the late Mrs. Maude Cameron, were among those hallmarks. They were among a core of club members that their children often called “the Golden Girls”. They found different ways to stay active, such as yard sale shopping, going out the eat, spending time together, and talking on the phone. She was truly a beloved community mother, grandmother, and friend. As health challenges arose, attendance to Springfield Baptist Church would also decline.

After a prolonged hospital stay, she was called to her heaven home to take place amongst her ancestral elders on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Pearl Gates, two brothers, Forrest Glanton and J.C. McLaughlin, a sister-in-law, Willie Mae Glanton, a son-in-law Freddie Foster Sr, and a daughter-in-law, Sarah Philpot Glanton. Her memories will be cherished by her daughter, Oueen Maybelle Foster of Hogansville, and two sons Jerry Glanton of Lagrange, and Tony (Althina) Glanton of Hogansville. Ten grandchildren: Freddie Jr., Solomon (Kiesha), Keischa, Donte, Zanathia, Tarus, Nakema, Jericco (Jinai), ShaCaldra, Joshue, D’Coreous Sr. (JaKeva), Antilous, and Jerkeem. Twenty-three great grandchildren Kenya, Malcom, TaMayah, Michael, Sierra, Ki’Eric, Javonte, Toriayuna, Henry, Leonna, Leikjoh, Di’Coureous Jr., Judaea, Chance, Omega, Jada, Annabelle, Jamori, Kylee, Shaelynn, Brayden, Kingston, and Nariya; and four great great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Emily Gamble and one brother Willie Edward Glanton, both of Hogansville, and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. Surviving also are special friends, Lillian Rhodes Cotton and Walter Rosser of Hogansville, and her God children, Debbie, Fred, Angela, Tony, and Cedric Lowe, all formerly of Hogansville.

Arrangements entrusted to Thrash and Sons Funeral Home, 117 West Main Street in Hogansville. 706-637-8791.
