Obituary For Ms. Clarese Blackmon

Blackmon, Ms. Clarese "Sal" Johnson, a resident of Valley, AL, died Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Diversicare of Lanett, Lanett, AL.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. from Eagles' Nest Cathedral, West Point, GA with Apostle Melvin A. Cartwright, Pastor officiating.

Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lanett, AL. Davis Memorial Mortuary of Valley directing.

Public Viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, February 26, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Davis Memorial Mortuary Chapel.

Ms. Clarese Levelle Johnson Blackmon was born August 22, 1972 to Evelyn Johnson and Nathaniel Sherrell in Valley, Alabama. She was a member of Eagle’s Nest Cathedral in West Point, Georgia under the leadership of Apostle Melvin A. Cartwright. She was educated in the Chambers County Public School System graduating from Valley High School in 1990. During her matriculation at Valley High, she was a member of the Marching Band.

Sal, as she was affectionately known, was employed by Interface Flooring in LaGrange, Georgia. She possessed a vibrant personality-- being up front, out spoken and having loud laughter. She was a true Auburn fan and wanted everyone to know it. More than anything, Sal adored her children and grandchildren. Her enjoyment was spending time with family and friends.

Clarese was preceded in death by: her father, her grandmother, Mary Helen Avery, one uncle, Charles Johnson and Steven Hightower whom she loved as her own son. On Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Diversicare of Lanett, God whispered in her ear, you have fought a good fight, you have finished your course, now it’s time for you to take your rest.

Clarese leaves to cherish her memories: five beautiful daughters, Shayonte’ Johnson, Yashieka Johnson, Brianna Johnson and Shimaya Johnson all of Valley, AL and Sakaii Blackmon, LaGrange, GA; her loving mother, Evelyn Johnson, Valley, AL; seven precious grandchildren, Deanna, Dahlia, Christian, Ayvn, Cayden, Carson and Calen; four brothers, Spencer Johnson, Julius (Denise) Johnson and her twin—Maurice Johnson all of Valley, AL and Travis (Kymlyn) Smith, West Point, GA; two sisters, Alexis (Kenny) Lott, Lee County, AL and Alexandria Smith, Valley, AL; five aunts, Flora Johnson, Margaret Boyd, Mary Green and Carrie Walker all of Valley, AL and Geneva Magby, Atlanta, GA; two uncles, Daniel (Elizabeth) Sherrell and James Sherrell both of Valley, AL; one great-aunt, Daisy Patton, Newnan, GA; one godson, Jayden Smith, Valley, AL; a special niece as a daughter, Akena Neal, Lanett, AL; two special nephews as sons, Spencer Deion Johnson, Lanett, AL and Jalen Pruitt, Opelika, AL; special cousins, Elaine Smith, Valley, AL and Shawanda (Jerell) Philpott, Opelika, AL; five children she loved as her own, Raken Walker, Ebonne Payton, Charlena Thomas, Ashlee Winston and Kendra Mobley; a father to her children and family friend, Willie Blackmon, Jr.; and, a host of other relatives and friends.
