Obituary For Mrs. Virginia Carter Bennett

On Thursday, February 6, 2020 Virginia Carter Bennett entered eternal rest at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday, February 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from Rehoboth Baptist Church, Rev. Karanja Story, Pastor, Rev. Vernon Carter, Eulogist and Dr. Jonathan Carter, Officiant.

Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Valley, AL. Davis Memorial Mortuary of Valley directing.

Public Viewing is scheduled for Thursday, February 13, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Davis Memorial Mortuary Chapel.

Virginia Carter Bennett was born March 22, 1949 in Chambers County, Alabama to the Brady C. and Mozella Harris Carter, Jr. She accepted Christ at an early age under the pastoral leadership of her father at Community Baptist Church in Fairfax (now Valley), Alabama. She later became a member of Berean Church International in Lanett, Alabama under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Vernon Carter. She was a faithful member, serving in the Women’s Ministry and as a mentor to many.

Mrs. Bennett was educated in the Chambers County Public School System and graduated from Rehobeth High School in 1967. Upon graduation she moved to Chicago, Illinois where she held various jobs in the banking industry. It was in Chicago where she met the love of her life, Benjamin Bennett. After the Bennetts re-located to Alabama, she worked for the Chambers County Board of Education, International Career Institute and Charter Bank. Virginia was a member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and in 1988 she had an actor’s role, as did her son, in the movie Mississippi Burning filmed in LaFayette, Alabama. In 2004 she retired from Charter Bank as the Customer Service Manager.

She was preceded in death by: three brothers, Johnny Carter, Grady Carter and Curtis Carter; and, two sisters, Esther Carpenter and Bernice Huguley.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Benjamin Bennett; her son, Terrence Bennett (Tracy); grandchildren, Deyante Bennett, Valencia Bennett, Terrence Bennett, Jr., Tayden Bennett and Kameron Bennett; a niece and two nephews whom she reared as her own, Marilyn Holt, Dr. Henry M. Carter and C. Chandon Carter; two sisters, Willie Lou Carter and Marian Carter Barker; three sisters-in-law, Mary Carter, Sharon Bennett and Lois Bennett; one brother-in-law, Austin Bennett; and, a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
