Hurston, Mrs. Bennetta G. Lovelace, a resident of Lanett, AL, died Thursday, October 29, 2020 at her residence.
Graveside Services are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2020 at 12:00 Noon (EST) at Hillcrest Cemetery, Lanett, AL with Pastor Frederick Stanley officiating. Davis Memorial Mortuary of Valley directing.
Public Viewing is scheduled for Sunday, November 1, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Davis Memorial Mortuary Chapel in Valley.
Sister Bennetta Gertrude Lovelace Hurston was born April 9, 1928 in Harris County, Georgia. She was one of ten children born to the late Mr. Johnnie and Mrs. Mamie Sherman Lovelace.
Bennetta loved the Lord and at an early age, accepted Christ and joined the Zion Rest Baptist Church in Langdale (now Valley), Alabama. She loved her church and was very dedicated. Sunday School was her love and she looked forward to attending every Sunday and reading the lesson to her class.
She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late L D Hurston, Sr. and to this union seven children were born. Bennetta retired from West Point Pepperrell.
She was preceded in death by: two children, Billy Gene Hurston and L D “Randy” Hurston, Jr.; two grandchildren, Jessica Hurston and Alton Glaze; her step-mother, Irene Andrews Lovelace; and, her siblings, Amos James, Martha Hall, Charles “CS”, Eddie B, Aaron Denton, Walter J., Emma Lee Heard, Mary Barrow, Evelyn Reese, Rubentia Washington, Gertrude Brooks and Mae Fannie Flowers.
At her home on Thursday, October 29, 2020, while the day was very young, she quietly sank into the rest that knows no awakening except in the presence of the Lord.
Her precious memories will forever be engraved in the hearts of her loved ones: her daughter and son who were her devoted caregivers, Edna Hurston and Eddie Hurston, sons, Johnny (Barbara) Hurston and Larry Hurston and daughter, Charlene H. Hargett all of Lanett, AL; a devoted grandson who was lovingly reared in her home, Vincent (Dankell) Hurston, Valley, AL; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Barbara Billingslea; two step-children, Milton Glaze, Hopkinsville, KY and Deresia Glaze, Mitchellville, MD; two siblings, Ezella Merritt, Baltimore, MD and Catherine Williams, Chattanooga, TN; god-daughter, Susie Strickland, Valley, AL; and, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including two special friends, Doretha Thomas and Carolyn Lyons both of Valley, AL.
