Obituary For Mr. Tommie Lee Autry

Autry, Mr. Tommie Lee, a resident of Valley, AL, died Sunday, December 17, 2017 at his residence.

Graveside Services with Full Military Honors are scheduled for Friday, December 22, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. from Resthaven Memorial Park, Lanett, AL with Rev. L. C. Thomas officiating. Davis Memorial Mortuary of Valley directing.

Tommie Lee Autry was born September 8, 1936 in Chambers County, Alabama to the late William Lee “Shooty”, Sr. and Willie Pearl Langston Autry. At an early age, Tommie was introduced to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Inspired by his beliefs in Jesus Christ, he joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Tommie was educated in the Public School System of Chambers County, attending Lanier High School. In 1955, he enlisted in the United States Army. During his military career, he held several jobs, including medic lineman and Army recruiter. In 1976, Tommie retired as a Sergeant First Class after 21 years of dedicated service, receiving an Honorable Discharge. Upon retirement, he worked with the Department of Labor as a Veteran’s Employment Counselor for an additional 22 years.

After relocating to Alabama, he joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Valley. Mr. Autry pledged his loyalty to his church where he worked effortlessly and untiring. He served on the Deacon Board and as Sunday School Superintendent. Tommie was the first one to arrive at church ensuring that the doors were open and the heat or air was on.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and, two brothers, William Lee, Jr. and Jessie. Mr. Tommie Lee Autry departed this life peacefully on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at his residence.

Tommie was truly a great husband and family man with an unsurpassed love for his family. He leaves to cherish his memories: a loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Willie “Pam” Phillips Autry, Valley, AL; one brother, Albert Lewis Autry, Lanett, AL; three sisters, Lula Mae (Rev. Joe) Dunn, Valley, AL, Ophelia Baker, Columbus, GA and Barbara (Larry) Tall, Morristown, TN; one sister-in-law, Annie P. (Ulysses) Stephens, Gonzales, LA; and, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends.
