Celebrating the Life of Mr. Edward Lamar Hill
Edward was born the third child of eight to the parentage of Rev. Otis D. and Naomi Stiggers Hill, Sr. on March 19, 1952 in Langdale (now Valley), Alabama.
Lamar, as he was affectionately called, attended the Historical Lanier High School, and was a member of the graduating Class of 1970 of Lanett High School.
As a child, Lamar was very inquisitive and enjoyed reading encyclopedias. This curious nature would follow him into adulthood reading books about animals, gardening and nature. He loved everything outdoors--fishing, hunting and planting fruit trees. He often planted trees for family and friends and spent his final days sitting on his front porch watering new trees to plant this Spring.
At an early age, Lamar united with the Evening Spring Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a deacon. As a young adult, he united with the Jehovah’s Witnesses being baptized on October 27, 1973 and was faithful until death.
Lamar loved people. He never met a stranger. He was a hard worker and did his job with pride. Through the years, he was employed by Lanier Memorial Hospital, West Point Pepperell, Winn Dixie, Martex Warehouse and retired from Mando. To know him was to love him, and he loved hard. He was a Temptations fan and could often be heard singing “My Girl” to his nieces and nephews. He was also asked to sing at various events.
But, God knows best and never makes a mistake. On Saturday, March 21, 2020, Edward Lamar Hill departed this life—reuniting with his parents, grandparents, Albert and Minnie Johnson Hill and Abraham and Laura Myhand Stiggers and other relatives and friends.
He leaves to cherish his memories: seven siblings, Omie R. Johnson and her husband Fred-- Lamar’s devoted brother-in-law and special friend, Valley, AL, Otis D. Hill, Jr., Lanett, AL, Terry (Regina) Hill, Powder Springs, GA, Sandra Thornton, West Point, GA, Deborah Gilbert, Stanley Hill and Cheryl Hill all of Lanett, AL; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends, including special friends, Merle Gunn, Lillie Ray and Tommie Lee Porter, Jr.
