Willie Arthur Simmons “Bill” Goodwin was born February 25, 1917, to the late Earnest Simmons and Mary Goodwin. Bill had two siblings: Juanita and Catherine who preceded him in death. Bill departed this earthly life September 7, 2017. Bill accepted Christ and shared his spirit of love at Walton Chapel Methodist Church where he served faithfully until his health failed. In 1941, he was united in Holy Matrimony with Mattie Lou Cowan, who preceded him in death on June 5, 2015. This union was blessed with eleven children. Four preceded him in death: two babies, Willie Piez (Billie) in 1988 and Samuel (Sam, Pete) in 1995.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his children: Earnest (Peggy), Lonnie (Beverly), Mary (Hugh), Elizabeth, Maxine, Bobbie, and Doretha; sisters-in-law: Annie Jean and Mildred; daughter-in-law, Statie; god-son, John Lewis; twenty-two (22) grandchildren; forty-two (42) great-grandchildren; thirteen (13) great-great grandchildren along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, church family, and friends.
