Carter Funeral Home announces the peaceful transition of Mrs. Essie B. Streeter Crockett, a native of Midway, Alabama.
Mrs. Crockett, 85 transitioned into eternity, June 29, 2021 at her residence in Fairfield, Alabama.
The Commemoration of Life will begin with a public visitation, Friday, July 9, 2021 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Carter Funeral Home.
The Farewell Celebration at Graveside will be held Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Hayes Hill Baptist Cemetery, Midway AL.
Pastor Henry Streeter of the Hayes Hill and New Mt. Pleasant Baptist Churches will deliver the eulogy.
Attendees for all visitations and services are requested to wear appropriate facial coverings and practice social distancing guidelines.
Mrs. Essie B. Streeter Crockett was born on October 28, 1935 in Midway, Alabama to the late Rev. Robert Streeter, Sr. and Mrs. Mattie Henderson Streeter. Essie transitioned from earth to reward on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 in Fairfield, AL.
Essie attended Hayes Hill Elementary and graduated from Merritt High School in 1955. Soon after graduation, she relocated to New York City and continued her education at Apex Business School. She began working for the Internal Revenue Service in 1964 and later as an Immigration Officer with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service. As an Immigration Officer, Essie traveled to different countries such as England, Holland and France. Over the years, she received numerous awards and recognition for her work with the U.S. government. Essie loved photography, especially capturing special memories of her family.
Essie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and joined Hayes Hill Baptist Church in Midway, AL. She later joined Mt. Nebo Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. William D. Garner in New York City where she served faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent until she retired in 1995 and relocated to Birmingham, Alabama. In Birmingham, she joined New Saint James Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of her beloved pastor, Rev. Daryl L. Warren where she served faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher, usher and member of the Benevolence Society until her health declined.
Essie was faithfully married to Mr. Albert Crockett until his death in 1975. She was also preceded in death by her loving parents, six sisters and three brothers. Essie leaves to cherish her memories two sisters Ms. Cora Bell Streeter (Midway, AL) and Ms. Leeartice Streeter (New York, NY); one God son Mr. Sirganer Streeter (Kingsland, GA); a nephew and caretaker Mr. Otis James Streeter (Birmingham, AL) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved dearly
